STUDIO

Rivers: mapped or not is a new body of work by Maísa Stolz, currently in development in her Oxfordshire studio.

The series marks a transition from figurative sculpture towards abstraction, where discarded paper becomes a material language in its own right. Built from newspapers and egg boxes mainly, the works explore movement, texture, erosion and the uncertain paths that matter can take.

The river appears not as an image to be represented, but as a force. It suggests direction, interruption, memory and change. Some paths are visible. Others are buried within the surface.

In this series, paper is broken down, softened, layered and pressed until it becomes almost geological. The works sit between sculpture, relief and surface, carrying traces of touch, time and transformation.

New works from this series are currently being developed in the studio. Early enquiries are welcome.

More works from this series will be released soon.
